Happy New Year! As we enter the first day of 2016, I feel inspired, full of hope and possibility. How about you? Perhaps you're not feeling this way at all. Regardless of how you're feeling and whether you like it or not, there is so much talk of New Year's resolutions and goals at this time. We can easily get into thinking we aren't enough, didn't achieve enough and need to be someone else or do something totally radical to make the new year better. Or worse still, if you're feeling in a funk and everyone else is all up beat and excited, it can only make you feel more glum. Start where you are. Sit with whatever you're feeling today. But know this...
This is what I want for you this year…
Less stress. Less overwhelm.
Less anxiety. Less worry.
Less exhaustion. Less burnout. Fewer meltdowns.
Less numbing of emotions with mindless boozing and T. V.
Less procrastinating. Less self-doubt. Less self-sabotage.
Less bitching. Less moaning.
Less complaining. Less comparing.
Less blaming. Less shaming.
Less judgement (of self and others). Less anger.
Less guilt. Yes! Much less.
Less punishing yourself.
Less rushing. Less 'I'm so busy'.
Less pushing and striving.
More fun. More Joy. Guess that means more smiles. Yay!
More laughter. Deep belly chuckles.
More self-compassion. More self-kindness. More self-care.
Which naturally flows on to more compassion, kindness and care of others.
More trust. Acceptance. Forgiveness. Patience.
More ease. Peace. Healing.
More letting go. Surrendering to the Divine.
More inspired action. More alignment. More soul.
More restful slumber. More healthy nourishment of the body, mind and soul.
More meditation. More yoga.
More presence. More going within.
More space. For creating. Connecting. Dreaming.
More living. Breathing. Being.
Feeling it all. The highs and lows.
Oh and love. So much love.
This is what I want for you. I want this for me too.
No matter what your goals or intentions are for the New Year, go gently on yourself. Don't compare yourself with someone else's journey or get lost in someone else's dreams. You don't even have to set grand goals or resolutions if that doesn't feel good for you. This year I want to focus more than ever on the feelings. How I really want to feel. What I want to leave behind and what I want to bring with me. I want everything to flow from there. I want to have one guiding word to hold my hand and lead the way, for when I hit a bump in the road. My word is TRUST. Trusting that I'm on the right path, going at the right pace. Trusting that every challenge that enters my life is an opportunity for growth and that every success or moment of happiness is one to be celebrated.
I won't be doing it alone though. We all need help along the way to get us to where we want to go. Without my spiritual practice, which includes meditation and yoga plus the beautiful guidance of a range of mentors, coaches and healers in my life, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Feeling clearer, calmer and more aligned than I have in a long time. 2015 was a big year. In fact the last three years have been massive. So many learnings. So much growth that I'm yet to fully appreciate.
In mid 2015, I attended a Desire Map workshop where I dove deeper into how I wanted to feel and what I wanted to achieve. You can read more about the Desire Map here and here. The Core Desired Feelings I had previously set by skimming through Danielle LaPorte’s incredible book no longer felt right for me. My new Core Desired Feelings became Ease, Spacious and Connection. While they may seem simple, they are exactly the way I wish to feel, continuing into 2016. Everything comes back to these feelings.
Two days ago, I spent the day fully aligned to these desires. With a few weeks off from my day job I had treated myself to some time off from my business. I didn’t set my alarm. I leisurely got up, took myself out for a solo brunch then spent the afternoon in the park reflecting, reading, writing and meditating. It felt amazing. Blissful. I experienced so much ease. My life slowed down and I felt so spacious. I felt a strong connection to nature, the Universe and myself. My one big goal this year is to feel this way as much as possible as I go about my day, my life and business. To infuse the rest of my year with more of these feelings. Why? Because feeling ease, spacious and connection is where it is at for me. Trusting in my path. My journey. Trusting that a power far greater than me but that is part of me is guiding me always. Trusting my soul knows the way and the Universe has got my back.
