How to utilise the energy of the New Year December 13 2015, 0 Comments
I absolutely LOVE this time of year, the festive season vibes, the promise and excitement of a new year ahead. Time to hit reset. Clear the slate. Start fresh. Take the valuable lessons from the current year and let go of anything that no longer serves you. The year's end is the perfect time to stop and take a moment to reflect on the year that has been. The highs, the lows and everything in between! Setting sacred time aside to consider and celebrate your achievements is so important. Spending time dreaming, visualising and planning the next twelve months is equally as important to ensure you have a road map to get where you wish to go.
There are a number of ways you can utilise this energy and time of year. Running around shopping centres like a mad woman looking for last minute Christmas gifts isn't one of them! You may choose to use a journal or planner, light a candle and spend an evening or a full weekend going through this end of year ritual. You may spend a week! You may decide to work with a coach. You may like to do a mini meditation visualising the year that has been and the year that awaits us. Do whatever is calling you.
Here are some of my suggestions...
1. Grab a pen, paper and a cup of tea (or a cheeky vino - it is the festive season after all). Answer the following questions…
What were my main goals or intentions for 2015?
Did I achieve them?
What did I learn?
What challenged me or took me out of my comfort zone?
What would I do differently if I had the time again?
Is there anything I want to leave behind or let go of in 2015 (relationships, job, limiting belief)?
2. Write down your goals and intentions for 2016. Use this as a guide…
How do I want to feel in 2016?
What are 1-5 feelings I want to experience regularly in 2016?
What are the 1-5 key things I would like to achieve in 2016?
What would it take to achieve these?
What is one thing that scares me that I want to do in 2016?
What habits would I like to change?
What routines or rituals would I like to create for myself?
3. Now it’s time to declare your intentions and goals.
It may feel scary and make your dreams feel real but be sure to share them with your partner, a close friend or relative. Write a blog post about them, post them on social media to help hold you accountable and to let the Universe know what you're wanting to attract.
4. Write your core desired feelings and big goals somewhere visible.
Perhaps it’s in a daily planner like the beautiful ones by Danielle LaPorte or on a white board or your bathroom mirror. The more visible the better. Without a map, it’s hard to reach our destination. Reminders of our dreams and goals keeps us focused and on track throughout the year.
5. Get creative! Make a vision board.
Collect pictures, words and objects that represent your dreams and goals for 2016. Get clearer on how you want 2016 to look. Dream big. Sit with each piece you place on your vision board to check in that it feels aligned. Have a vision board evening with your friends! Make it a fun experience.
6. Meditate and visualise 2016.
Play some relaxing music or a guided meditation. How do you feel, what are you doing, what does 2016 look like? Again dream big and visualise all of those dreams coming to fruition.
7. Now go celebrate the year that was!
Have some fun and treat yourself. You deserve it!
If you have your own rituals or end of year practice, I'd love to hear about them in the comments below!
Wondering is there more to life than this monotony of getting up, going to work, coming home, cooking dinner and going to bed to start all over again?
Are you feeling there is something more for you?
Are you chasing goals that never seem to leave you fulfilled?
